In short, the Pod Point Solo 3S is a black, circular, single-phase 7.4kW home EV charger, available as tethered or untethered. Untethered, you use your own EV charging cable. Tethered, comes with a 6.5m cable.

New and exclusive, the Pod Point Home Solo S3 EV home charger has special integration with EDF’s Pod Power EV tariff.

Offering a discounted electricity rate of 6.49p per kWh during the hours of 11 pm to 6 am, Pod Power is the cheapest EV tariff on the market (As of September 2026).

According to Pod, you can save over £450 a year compared to a standard tariff.

No other EV home charger is capable of this.

4. 5-year warranty

Within the EV charger industry, you’re looking at a standard three-year manufacturer warranty. While not the longest on offer (that goes to Simpson and Partners’ 10-year warranty), Pod offers more bang for your buck, including it as standard.

A handful of EV charger manufacturers offer a five-year warranty as an optional extra. Hypervolt Home 3 Pro, for example, does this – charging an extra £100 to upgrade from a 3-year warranty to a 5-year warranty.

Locked and loaded, the Pod Point Home Solo 3S comes with security and safety protection.

6. Dynamic load balancing

What are the cons of the Pod Point Solo 3S?

1. Not the highest IP rating

The standard for home EV chargers is an IP54 rating, making the Solo 3S entirely waterproof.

That said, some other chargers on the market exceed this baseline IP Rating.

The Indra Smart LUX, for example, has a whopping IP67 rating. That’s the highest on the EV home charger market.

 2. Not compatible with some of the UK’s leading EV tariffs

Being compatible with the cheapest EV tariff on the market is, of course, vastly beneficial. But the strict requirements of the Pod Power EDF tariff mean not everyone can take advantage. For one, you must be with EDF for your electricity. Not everyone is.

Many EV drivers have had their heads turned by Intelligent Octopus Go, offering an 8p per kWh discounted rate. While not as low, it comes with its own set of perks.

Sadly, the Pod Point Solo 3S isn’t compatible with the Intelligent Octopus Go EV tariff.

If you’re sold on the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, perhaps take a look at the directly compatible EV home chargers, Ohme Home Pro or Zappi Glo.

3. No mobile connection

Typically, EV home chargers come with Wi-Fi connectivity, just like the Pod Point Solo 3S, creating a line of communication between your EV charger, your electric car, and your smartphone app to manage your home EV charging.

However, a handful of popular EV chargers offer Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity. Why? In case you live in an area with spotty Wi-Fi. If your connection is constantly turning on and off, this will affect your smart charging, potentially cutting off your discounted charging sessions or stopping your charging altogether.

The Pod Point Solo 3S only supports 2.4 GHZ Wi-Fi, so if you live in an area with next to no Wi-fi connection, this charger is not for you.

Instead, opt for a mobile-connected EV home charger, such as the Ohme Home Pro.

4. Basic design

Circular, plastic and with a muted black and grey colour palette, some electric car owners don’t love the Pod Point Solo 3S look, with some arguing it’s ugly and one even commenting it looks like a Stormtrooper mask.

In our opinion, its design is inoffensive, much like the traditional, older route of EV home chargers.

Of course, if an aesthetically pleasing EV charger is at the top of your list, take a look at the Easee One, or, if you’re a fan of the space-themed aesthetic, take a peek at the Hypervolt Home 3 Pro.

5. No colour choices

Currently, the Pod Point Solo 3S is only available in a black and grey colour scheme – black on the body with grey accents.

Keen to have a bolder pop of colour? Or perhaps you want to go the extra mile and have the ability to swap your charger’s front cover?

If either of those are yeses, the BG Sync EV charger is for you.

6. Only app-controlled

By no means a dealbreaker, but some EV drivers enjoy quick EV charging management with buttons on the front of the EV charger or an LCD screen.

The Pod Point Solo 3S has neither. Your sole way to manage your home EV charging with the app.

If you’re not too tech-forward, having buttons or a mini screen helps make charging a little easier. If that sounds like you, take a look at the Ohme ePod.

Is the Pod Point Solo 3S a good home EV charger?

All in all, the Pod Point Solo 3S is a great EV home charger, with its 5-year warranty as standard, exclusive compatibility with the cheapest EV tariff on the market, its price point, and its award-winning status as What Car? Best Value Home Charger 2025.

That said, there are some areas that could be improved. For one, the Pod Solo 3S is not compatible with all EV tariffs, including the popular Intelligent Octopus Go. Another is that the Pod Solo 3S lacks an LCD screen or buttons, as well as being the most aesthetically pleasing unit on the market.

Despite this, the Pod Point Solo 3S EV charger is 100% worth the investment, especially if you are with EDF or a prospective customer, or looking for an all-round budget-friendly charger.
