So Energy EV Tariff: So EV - The New Spark in Town

EV tariffs are dominating the EV space, sending electricity prices plummeting during off-peak hours and rewarding electric car owners for their cheaper, greener charging.

Popular tariffs from leading energy suppliers are leading the charge. Octopus, British Gas and EON come straight to mind – but what about the new name on the street?

The So EV tariff from So Energy.

In today’s So Energy EV tariff review, we explain what the electric car tariff offers, the benefits and whether it’s worth plugging in to.

Let’s get into it.

What is the So Energy EV tariff?

Just like all electric car driver tariffs, So Energy’s EV tariff, named the So EV, offers special discounted electricity prices during off-peak hours for those who’ve already adopted an EV lifestyle.

And while the off-peak hour windows all vary depending on the energy company, the So EV tariff offers cheaper, greener electricity at 6.5p per kWh from 12 am to 5 am every day. All with 100% renewable electricity.

Grab your pen and take note: cheaper electricity prices aren’t just on charging costs, they’re on your entire electricity bill. So spread those amps and boost your energy usage: Flick the TV on, bundle a load in the washing machine, get your dishwasher churning, and plug all your electrical devices in to charge…not just your home electric vehicle charger.

For reference, the daytime prices will be the standard competitive fixed tariff rate.

So Energy EV Tariff Eligibility:

  • Own an EV (electric vehicle) that’s also registered in the UK
  • Have a smart meter capable of half-hour readings installed at your home, either the first or second gen – SMETS1 or SMRTS2 (if you don’t have one, you can get one installed for free from So)
  • Be with So Energy for your electricity
  • Have a So Energy online account
  • Have a smart EV charger installed at home (any smart home charger will do, but public charging points and dumb, three-pin plug chargers won’t work)
  • And of course, be on the So EV tariff (Initially switch to the standard variable tariff, So Flex, then swap over to the So EV tariff).

Is the So Energy EV Tariff good?

So Energy is oh so smart. At the cheapest off-peak EV tariff rate on the market at 6.5p per kWh during the hours of 12 am to 5 am, the So EV tariff is perfect for EV owners who want to pocket extra savings. Especially if you also want to slash your carbon footprint simultaneously, with their energy powered by renewable energy sources only.
