EV Chargepoint Grant for Households with On-Street Parking

No off-street parking? No problem. The EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking helps the 30-40% of UK homeowners without off-street parking get a smart EV charger installed at home. The current grant offers up to 75% off total costs, capped at £500 per eligible installation – so long as you meet the criteria.

Why was the EV chargepoint grant for on-street parking introduced?

The core reason for the on-street parking grant is to boost EV adoption in the UK.

Around 30-40% of UK homes have on-street parking, so the grant supports those without a driveway to purchase an EV and have access to a home EV charger.

What is the grant worth?

  • 75% of eligible costs
  • Capped at £500

Who can apply for the EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking?

  • Have on-street parking (no driveway)
  • Own the property or rent: if rented, have permission from the landlord for the installation.
  • Have a cross-pavement EV charging solution installed before you have the smart EV charger installed, such as Kerbo Charge.
  • Have permission from your local council to have the installation
  • Have ordered, own or lease an OZEV-approved electric vehicle (see if your vehicle is eligible). Company cars are eligible too.
  • Live in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.

How do I apply for the EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking?

1. Get permission

If you rent, you need to get the relevant permissions before you apply, such as:

  • Landlord permission

2. Get a quote from an authorised installer.

Get in touch with an OZEV-authorised installer, such as We Power Your Car, provide the relevant permissions, and ask for a personalised quote.

The quote must include the following:

  • Name and model number of the OZEV-authorised charger
  • Details of the EV charger installer

3. Get Local Authority permission.

Start a new application through your local highway authority for permission to install the cross-pavement solution.

Good to know: Wait for your approval before applying for the grant; otherwise, you may be declined.

4. Submit your grant application.

Apply for the EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking on the government website.

Find the link to the portal here.

You’ll need:

  • Evidence of your local authority approval
  • Confirmation that you can get any relevant planning permission

5. Wait for approval

If your grant is approved, you’ll:

  • Get a confirmation email
  • A letter with the terms and conditions
  • Instructions for the next steps
  • Guidance for your chosen EV charger installer

6. EV charger installation

Once your grant has been approved, your chosen OZEV-authorised installer can fit:

  • Your EV charger
  • Your chosen cross-pavement charging solution

7. OZEV-authorised installer claims the grant.

Your installer will claim the grant.

If approved, the grant goes directly to the installer, not to you.

8. Potential audit

OZEV have the right to audit any grant-subsidised installers to ensure they meet the requirements.

How long will the EV chargepoint grant for on-street parking last?

The EV chargepoint grant for on-street parking is currently open, with a scheduled deadline of 31st March 2027, after being extended for a final year.

Are there any additional requirements?

  • Must have the installation performed by an OZEV-authorised installer such as We Power Your Car (find the full list)
  • Must have an eligible EV charger installed (find the full list).

What if I already have an EV charger installed?

Unfortunately, if you already have a smart EV charger installed, you won’t be eligible for the EV chargepoint grant for households with on-street parking, as it can’t be backdated.

It’s only for EV owners wanting an EV charger, not those who’ve already invested.

What if I’ve already used another home EV charger grant?

Sadly, you are not eligible for the on-street EV charger grant if you’ve already taken advantage of another grant, such as the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.

Can I use the grant more than once?

Generally, the on-street parking grant is one grant per eligible installation.

What if I’m moving house?

You can’t use the on-street EV charger grant to move a pre-installed smart EV charger to another property.

You would either have to install a new one, which, if eligible, could be grant-subsidised, or move your current chargepoint to your new property without the help of a grant.

See if it’s better to move your EV charger, or if it’s better to purchase a new one.

Can businesses apply?

No, only residential properties are eligible for EV chargepoint for households with on-street parking.

For commercial properties, look into the Workplace Charging Scheme instead.

What cross-pavement charging solutions can be used?

Only an approved cable channel or gully.
