Kerbo Charge: Charging the future of on-street parking
Imagine you have just brought your new electric car home. The sun catches your freshly polished Glacier Blue Tesla Model 3, or perhaps you’ve ventured for the brightly bold Mamba Green Mokka. You’re admiring your parked electric vehicle (EV) against the backdrop of terraced houses when your brows furrow and realisation dawns.
Too busy appreciating the benefits of electric cars, you’ve left the big question unanswered – how are you going to charge your electric car without off-street parking?
Don’t stress—on-street EV charging solutions are already here and generating massive traction in the EV market.
One of these popular solutions is Kerbo Charge.
Today, we discuss everything you need to know about Kerbo Charge’s on-street charging solution.
Who (and What) is Kerbo Charge?
In 2021, a team of problem-solvers— Michael Goulden, Ben Whitaker, Ben Grant, and Avi Bhattachan—created Kerbo Charge out of a shared frustration. The difficulty of charging an EV at home without a driveway.
With this in mind, they set out on a mission to make EV ownership accessible to everyone in the UK, not just those with private off-street parking. Their solution? A discreet, safe through-pavement cable channel that allows EV owners to charge safely without causing a hazard.
You may have seen Kerbo Charge on Dragons’ Den. Even better, the innovative charging solution caught the eye of Deborah Meaden, who saw its potential instantly. Impressed, she is now an angel investor, backing their charging solution, saying:
“The best inventions solve widespread problems with simple and cost-effective solutions and Kerbo Charge does just that.”

How does the channel solution work?
Made from calcium zinc stabilised PVC, the Kerbo Charge is a unique through-pavement channel. People also refer to it as an ‘EV charging channel’.
What does this mean? After your council grants permission, installers will dig a gully-like trench into the pavement at the front of your house. Once completed, slip in your EV charging cable, and it will contour to the shape of the pavement. Entirely hidden from view.
How do you use it? It opens and closes just like a zip on your jumper. Lift the lid of the cable gully, insert your charging cable, then plug in to charge—voila. All in just 30 seconds.
Slim, safe and simple to use.
Perfect for pedestrians, prams and wheelchairs to cross. No trailed cables. No trip hazards. It blends neatly into the ground. And it’s self-closing.

Where can you find them?
Find Kerbo Charge on the streets across the UK. To date, 25 councils are already on board. 13 more trials are underway, too.

Can I get a Kerbo Charge solution?
Overall, Kerbo Charge is for EV drivers with on-street parking. Think parallel parking on terraced house streets. If this is you, then yes, you can get a Kerbo Charge.
Materials such as tarmac, paving stones and brick surfaces can all have a Kerbo Charge solution installed. At a push, installers can work the EV charging solution across grass. However, this does cost extra.

How much does Kerbo Charge cost?
All in all, the pricing for Kerbo Charge starts at £649, including VAT and with the government grant. Without, you’re looking at a starting price of £999.
You will need to purchase a home EV charger on top of this to start gaining the benefits of home charging.
That said, as with any home charger, it’s an investment. Once installed, you can charge for pennies with the right charging set-up. Take the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff, for example. Charge for as little as 7p per kWh during greener off-peak hours.
Now, compare the price above to the average cost of public charging points in the UK. It’s clear you make your money back. Quick. Save money and CO2 emissions.
Is it worth investing in Kerbo Charge?
Truthfully, if you’ve got an EV but no driveway, charging can be a nightmare. We won’t lie. It is different to owning a petrol/diesel car and refuelling. But that’s where Kerbo Charge comes in and becomes an essential piece of EV charging infrastructure.
Neat, discreet and safe to own, the Kerbo Charge gives you all the benefits of a home charger by making it feasible to charge with on-street parking.
You can even earn money when others use your electricity supply. Simply download the Kerbo Charge app and open up your charging solution available for others to use. Share with your community and earn 4p per kWh every time someone plugs in.
On top of this, Kerbo Charge has won multiple awards, showing their innovative tech:
- Kerbo Charge won the ‘Best Product or New Technology’ at the Transport + Energy Awards in 2024.
- Low Carbon Transport Award at the REA Awards
- SME Greater London Enterprise Awards
And, of course, Kerbo Charge has support from Dragons’ Den.
With all this in mind, we feel Kerbo Charge is a wise investment—especially as you can easily make your money back by opening up your charger to others and also charging during off-peak hours.
