What are the pros of the Cord Zero EV charger?

1. Advanced EV tariff integration

EV tariff integration means you can charge your electric car with discounted electricity during off-peak hours: a highly sought-after smart feature in 2026.

Not only does Cord Zero come with tariff integration, but Cord Zero’s independence means you can get access to almost all available energy tariffs:

  • Octopus Go
  • Ecotricity
  • EON Next Drive
  • Scottish Power
  • British Gas
  • Good Energy
  • EDF Go Electric Overnight
  • Utility Warehouse

The Cord Zero is even newly compatible with one of the UK’s favourite EV tariffs: OVO Charge Anytime.

2. Wi-Fi and 4G connectivity

A stable connection is needed between your EV charger, electric car, and its smartphone app – otherwise, you might lose functionality.

Stay connected with Cord Zero’s 4G mobile and Wi-Fi connected. One goes down? The other goes up.

Never fret about your charging stopping or your EV tariff prices being cut off. Reliable smart charging sessions without disruption, guaranteed.

That’s a 24/7, 365-day secure connection.

3. Solar EV charging compatible

New for Spring 2026, the Cord Zero charger is now fully solar compatible. That means you can charge your electric car with free, surplus solar energy – so long as you have solar panels at home.

So next time the sun comes out to play, make sure you’re not the only one taking in the sunlight.

Top up on sunshine.

Explore what you need for solar EV charging.

4. Free 5-year warranty

Get a free upgrade from the industry standard 3-year warranty to a whopping 5-year warranty, without any additional costs.

Peace of mind, for the long run.

And did you know the free 5-year warranty upgrade is worth £75?

5. Intuitive AI Cord Zero app

Powered by Monta, the AI-infused Cord EV app brings a new form of intelligence to home charging. Smart and simplified, the AI-named Raya does all the hard work for you, automatically charging your electric vehicle at the cheapest times available to you.

In fact, the Cord Zero AI comes with three charging options:

  • Cost saver: Prioritising cost savings, this option focuses on choosing the cheapest EV charging times for you.
  • Carbon saver: Prioritising more environmentally friendly charging.
  • Combo saver: A blend of carbon-neutral and cost-effective home charging.

But what else can you do with the Cord app? Here’s an overview:

  • Schedule charging sessions: set your car to charge overnight or on demand.
  • Track your energy usage
  • Charging history and data
  • Enable solar charging
  • Real-time data
  • Cable lock
  • In-app help centre

Download easily from the App Store or Google Play, and control your home EV charging remotely. Picture lying in bed, sitting on the sofa, or even just as the chicken goes into the oven. So long as you’re plugged in, your charging is in your hands, wherever and whenever you are.

6. Cable lock for added protection

Will your EV charger be visible from the street? Do you live in a busy area, or share your parking with others?

Put your mind at ease as you secure your charging cable to your socketed unit with Cord Zero’s cable lock feature.

Stop thieves in their tracks, and keep the electricity flowing.

What are the cons of the Cord Zero EV charger?

1. Traditional looks

At 320mm L x 210mm W x 132mm D, the Cord Zero is moderately compact. Not as neat and discreet as others, such as the Hive Mini Pro 2 or Easee One, but nowhere near as large as the body of the Indra Smart Pro.

Visually, the Cord Zero isn’t offensive to the eye, in a very minimalistic, traditional style of an EV charger.

That said, if you want a more visually interesting, perhaps even quirky, electric car charger, take a look at the square, sci-esque NexBlue Point 2, or the geometric, Scandinavian-styled Easee One.

2. Limited colour choices

In our opinion, this isn’t a be-all-and-end-all, but for those with the variety is the spice of life mantra, the Cord Zero might not tick your boxes.

Two colour choices are available: a greyish-black or clean white. That’s it.

Want a racing red charger to match your inferno red Kia Soul? Interested in a dark blue cover to match your garden gate? Thinking about a dark green charging point to blend in with your shrubbery? If yes, the Cord Zero isn’t for you.

Instead, opt for an EV charger with an interchangeable faceplate. The BG Sync Energy EV charger with nine colour options, or the Easee One, are great, multi-coloured options.

If you’re more design-focused and you want a home electric car charger to match your décor, then the Cord Zero might not be for you.

3. No LCD screen

Not a game changer by any means, but one worth noting. The Cord Zero doesn’t come with an LCD screen for easy charging management, only an app.

Put simply, LCD screens are for those who want quick, easy charging management, with just a glance or a press of a button over the more detailed, tech-heavy route of an app. Think those who lack a digital footprint, or prefer more manual routes of charging.

If you’re desperate for an LCD screen, we’d recommend the Ohme Home Pro or the Zappi Glo. However we feel it’s more of an added bonus that a necessary smart feature.

4. Issues with Intelligent Octopus Go

One of the biggest pitfalls with Cord Zero was its lack of compatibility with the Intelligent Octopus Go. Much to the happiness of cost-hunting EV drivers, compatibility was introduced, and that barrier was demolished this year, as Cord announced its full compatibility with Intelligent Octopus Go, as it was in the final stages of a public beta trial with the Intelligent Octopus Go EV tariff.

But there have been some teething issues. And in turn, sadly, the functionality with Intelligent Octopus Go means the trial has been paused, and the option removed for now, with updates and tweaks going up in the background.

In fact, Cord recently released the following:

“IMPORTANT NOTICE 27th May – Octopus and Cord have temporarily paused Cord charger direct integration with Octopus. Both Cord and Octopus teams are working hard to restore integration as soon as possible. We anticipate this work to be completed by mid-June. If your car supports an Octopus integration you can still connect that way. We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Please check back on this page for updates.”

We’ll keep you updated on any updates.

Final verdict: Is the Cord Zero charger any good?

In our opinion, the Cord Zero home EV charger is a great option for those who want full flexibility with their home charging, from tethered and untethered options to Wi-Fi and mobile connectivity. It’s a universal EV charger for any ability you want.

Many of our customers agree, as well as Cord Zero customers praising the charging with a 4.7 Trustpilot rating.

The only downsides are the limited colour options and the current problems with Intelligent Octopus Go. Most modern EV chargers only one in one or two colours, and Cord is currently prioritising fixing the intelligent octopus go compatibility.
