Utility Warehouse EV Tariff Review & Clear Guide

EV tariffs open up a gateway for gargantuan cost savings by allowing electric car drivers to slash home EV charging costs during off-peak hours, all possible through the sophisticated tech of a smart EV charger and the mercy of energy companies.

Multi-utility provider, Utility Warehouse, has embraced this new phenomenon, opening up its services to include newly popularised EV tariffs.

Today, we review and discuss Utility Warehouse’s EV tariff, including prices, eligibility, and the benefits and potential downsides.

What is the Utility Warehouse EV tariff?

Three discounted EV tariff rates are available with Utility Warehouse, depending on whether you bundle other UW household services (Broadband, Insurance, Mobile and Energy):

  • 1 service: 8.5p per kWh
  • 2 services: 8p per kWh
  • 3 services: 7p per kWh

Specifically for energy alone, 8.5p is the standard Utility Warehouse EV tariff rate.

These Utility Warehouse EV tariffs offer cheaper, greener EV charging at home during off-peak hours, solely for electric car owners.

When are the discounted off-peak Utility Warehouse EV tariff times?

Get cheaper, greener electricity, both for your home and EV charging, between midnight and 5 am, every day, seven days a week, with the UW EV tariff.

Outside of this timeframe, during peak hours, standard variable tariff rates apply.

What do you need for the Utility Warehouse EV tariff?

  • To be a Utility Warehouse customer
  • Have a smart meter installed at home capable of credit payments (this can be installed for free by your electricity provider)
  • Have a smart electric car charger installed at home
  • Own a battery electric car or hybrid (and can provide registration upon signing up).

Do you need a compatible Utility Warehouse EV charger?

Good news: all smart EV chargers are compatible with the UW EV tariff. Unlike other EV tariffs on the market, such as Intelligent Octopus Go or the EDF Pod Pro, which require specific chargers.

That means you can choose one of the best home EV chargers on the UK market, and the UW EV tariff will still work.

Do you need a compatible electric car?

No, all battery electric cars or plug-in hybrid vehicles will easily work with the UW EV tariff.

How do you switch to Utility Warehouse’s EV tariff?

  1. If you’re not with UW for your electricity, you’ll first have to sign up for their standard variable tariff.
  2. After you’ve moved away from your old provider, you’ll get invited to join the EV tariff
  3. You’ll receive a personalised quote
  4. Accept the quote and start saving.

What is the Utility Warehouse EV tariff’s day rate?

Utility Warehouse’s peak rates fluctuate due to its variable nature in correlation to Ofgem’s electricity rates.

Is it worth choosing the Utility Warehouse EV tariff?

While not as mainstream as other EV tariffs on the market (cough: Intelligent Octopus Go, cough: OVO Charge Anytime), the Utility Warehouse EV tariff promises a highly competitive rate at 8.5p per kWh, especially given the jump in electricity costs (24.67p per kWh) and, in turn, a slight rise in EV tariff prices.

Save money with the UW EV tariff, with the single-service rate matching other popular tariffs, and offering a slightly cheaper rate:

Unfortunately, the Utility Warehouse EV tariff is not the cheapest rate. That goes to the brand-new EDF tariffs: EDF GoElectric at 6.99p per kWh, and EDF Pod Power at 6.49p per kWh. The EDF EV tariffs involve more caveats, though. For example, you can only take advantage of the EDF Pod Power if you own a Pod home charger.

The only way to close this gap is by grouping other UW services to access the cheaper rate of 7p per kWh. Of course, this comes with its own additional costs, especially if you have to switch to UW for more services. In truth, you may not save as much on other household services compared to elsewhere.

That said, whether you’re a low-mileage or high-mileage electric vehicle driver, the 8.5p per kWh rate will fuel your car for cheaper, with UW claiming you can save up to £350 per year more than their standard tariff.

And Utility Warehouse also offers a strong, trusted background to complement the cheaper rate, having won:

  • the ‘Best Value Energy Supplier’ award from Expert Reviews
  • The Uswitch 2025 energy award for Best Value for Money.
  • For the eighth year in a row, Uswitch Energy Awards have won over 80 industry awards over the past ten years.

All in all, the Utility Warehouse EV tariff is a great option for electric car owners, especially for those bundling UW services, where you can access one of the cheapest EV tariff rates on the market at 7p per kWh.
