Morrisons EV Charging Guide: Costs, Locations & Perks

In keeping with other supermarkets in the UK, Morrisons is clued into the advantages of providing EV charging infrastructure at its stores. Of course, home EV chargers are the most convenient. But another easy route is destination charging, where customers can plug in and shop while simultaneously charging their EV.

Today, we lay out everything to do with Morrisons EV charging, including Morrisons EV charging costs, locations, perks, and more.

Quick summary:

  • Electric car charging is available at many Morrisons stores across the UK, including popular spots, such as the Morrisons Cribbs Causeway. That said, not all stores are EV charger-ready – yet.
  • The cost to charge your electric car at Morrisons varies depending on the store and the manufacturer, typically ranging from 69p to 90p. Legacy chargers, such as GeniePoint, are more expensive than the Morrisons MFG power points.
  • Most Morrison EV chargers are rapid or ultra-rapid charging speeds, offering power outputs of 35kW to 400kW, depending on the location. Meaning, EV drivers need to use CHAdeMO or CCS connectors.
  • Fast chargers are not available.

What EV charging networks are available at Morrisons?

  • MFG EV Power: In 2024, MFG acquired Morrisons forecourts, acquiring 337 Morrisons petrol forecourts and 400 associated sites across the UK for ultra-rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging. Meaning, the most common network at Morrisons is the MFG EV Power (Motor fuel group MFG), especially given the brand new chunk of investment. Look out: over 3,000 ultra-rapid chargers will be installed across 500 Morrisons sites.
  • GeniePoint: Rare, GeniePoint charging stations aren’t going anywhere at the Morrisons location, but more aren’t coming. These legacy EV charging points were installed in the past, and won’t likely be removed unless replaced by MFG EV Power points.

What types of speeds are available for Morrison’s EV charging stations?

Overall, DC-only chargers are available at Morrisons stores. Specifically:

  1. Rapid charging stations:

Ranging from 35kW at places like the Kirkstall Morrisons to 50kW charging stations at the Ripon store, rapid charging can vary.

  1. Ultra-rapid charging stations:

150kW and 300kW are your typical ultra-rapid charging speeds at Morrisons. Although new heights of 400kW are coming in soon.

Where can I find Morrisons electric car charging points?

There are multiple easy ways to find Morrison’s EV chargers near you:

  • Map apps: Zap-Map or Plug-Share will show any available EV chargers if you hover over your nearby Morrisons.
  • Network manufacturer app: Use the MFG EV Power App or Genie Point App to see if any Morrisons near you have EV charging.
  • Morrisons’ store locator: Go directly to the Morrisons store finder on the website, and search for your nearest shop. The store highlights will appear, including any available EV charging.

Is electric car charging free at Morrisons?

Unfortunately, free EV charging is extremely rare in the UK. 99% of the time, if you charge at Morrison’s, you will have to pay.

The only time charging may be free, or at best, discounted, is if there is an offer from the network.

How much does it cost to charge an electric car at Morrisons?

Since there are only two EV charging networks partnered with Morrisons, MFG and Geniepoint, you’re looking at two different price structures:

Network

Typical cost (per kWh)

GeniePoint 75 – 90p
MFG EV Power 69 – 79p

GeniePoint is much more expensive when it comes to Morrisons’ electric car charging. So, if you’re on a budget or simply have your cost-saving hat on, perhaps find your nearest Morrison with MFG EV charging stations.

How do you pay for Morrisons’ EV charging?

Across the board, Morrison’s only offers pay-as-you-go charging, with no subscription-based versions in play.

To pay, you can use one of the following methods:

How do you charge your electric car at Morrison’s?

  1. Find your nearest Morrisons that offers EV charging stations
  2. Park in the EV charging bay
  3. Plug in
  4. Start charging
  5. Pay via contactless card or Morrison’s app
  6. Unplug and drive on

Are there any restrictions?

Yes, there are restrictions on Morrisons EV charging, just like many public charging points. Restrictions will vary by location, but will most likely follow whatever the parking restrictions are.

The most common EV charging restrictions include:

  • Customer-only charging
  • Parking time limits
  • Opening hours
  • Vehicle restrictions (electric vans may not fit the charging bay)

Is it worth using Morrisons EV charging stations?

All in all, Morrisons offers a wide range of rapid and ultra-rapid EV charging stations, offering high-powered, quick charge for your weekly shop. With heavy investment previously, and coming in the next year, Morrisons will soon be brimming with EV charging infrastructure at all their UK stores.

But the cherry on top of the cake when it comes to Morrison’s EV charging is its points rewards system. Since March 2026, Morrisons customers have been able to collect points for each £1 spent on EV charging. Save time by double-duty charging, and also using any points on your weekly shop.

Currently, the only other supermarket to reward you for electric car charging is Sainsbury’s with their new, personalised charging network: Smart Charge.

But check the fine print: Only MFG offers pointed EV charging. Older infrastructure, specifically GeniePoint, is not eligible for Morrisons Rewards.

Matt McLellan, group customer, marketing and data director at Morrisons, said: “Rewarding customers with five Morrisons More Points for every £1 spent charging at all MFG EV Power bays across the UK means they can earn valuable points on the road and enjoy savings when they shop with us in-store.”
