Who is Osprey?
Founded in London in 2016, Osprey was created to lead the charge with rapid and ultra-rapid public EV chargers across the UK. Its focus is on uncomplicated charging for everyone, from the EV drivers in the general public to landlords.
The first Osprey charging station was installed in 2019. Now, with a selection of charging stations available, Osprey provides high-powered charging hubs with a variety of rapid charging points at different kWh speeds. To date, Osprey has rolled out 1,210 rapid charging stations across the UK.
Where do I find Osprey Charging Networks?
From Cornwall to the Scottish Highlands, Osprey rapid charging networks are nationwide.
Specifically, though, you will find Osprey chargers near retail parks and hospitality facilities. For example, Osprey has coveted partnerships with Starbucks, Burger King, and Brewhouse and Kitchen. Osprey charging stations are carefully positioned so your charging stop is convenient, offering other facilities. Recharge yourself while you charge your car.
If you’re looking for an Osprey charging station near you, you can use popular EV charging maps such as Zap-Map. Alternatively, if you don’t want to be ambushed by a number of charge point networks, load up the Osprey EV charging map on their website or on the Osprey app – you’ll find only Osprey chargers, here.
What do Osprey Charging stations look like?
Keep your eyes peeled for striking dark blue and bright orange charging stations if you are after an Osprey charger. As DC chargers, Osprey chargers are gigantic in comparison to home EV chargers – especially ones like the Ohme Home Pro and Easee One – towering and verging on robot-looking.
If you still can’t find them – make sure you use the Osprey charging map.
Is Osprey car charging free?
While some EV charging points in the UK do offer free EV charging, unfortunately, Osprey charging stations do not. But this is common among public charging networks that charge your EV with super fast DC energy.
How much does it cost to charge at Osprey charging stations?
In short, you’ll pay 79p per kWh across the Osprey Charging Network as standard. Sometimes, Osprey might offer promotional prices, so Osprey EV charging costs can change, but nine times out of ten it’s stuck in stone.
What’s more, there are no connection fees or surprise additional fees when it comes to Osprey charging price. Keep in mind, though, that Osprey might take a £25 pre-authorisation fee when you first use the app or RFID card.
Plus, you can request an Osprey charging receipt online or through the Osprey app if you need to download VAT receipts for an electric fleet. You can browse your charging history, too.
Why is Osprey charging so expensive?
While we don’t consider Osprey charging stations to be expensive – especially when compared to other public charging networks such as InstaVolt, ChargePlace Scotland, and IONITY, where pricing is the same – there are reasons why prices are more expensive than home EV chargers and other public charge points. And it’s because public chargers usually use DC energy – charging your EV with lightning-quick electricity to charge in as little as 20 minutes.
How do I pay for the Osprey EV charging network?
To make public charging as easy as possible, Osprey charging stations offers an abundance of payment options, including third-party payments and RFID cards. No need to have a membership or the Osprey charging app. Stress-free, simple payment is available.
Osprey payment methods:
- Contactless bank card
- Osprey app (you don’t have to use the app to charge)
