Pod Point Network Charging Stations: Your Go-To Guide

According to the UK government, public EV charge points are installed every 29 minutes. And now, with over 86,000 charging devices across 43,000 publicly accessible locations, the choice of EV charging networks seems endless.

But that’s where we come in.

In this latest edition of our public charging network series, we cover one of the original pioneers of EV charging in the UK, the recently re-branded Pod, formerly known as Pod Point.

Here, we discuss the essentials, from where Pod Point Network public chargers are located to how to find Pod chargers and how to pay for them.

Who and what is Pod Point?

When it comes to electric vehicle charging companies, Pod Point is one of the originals. Founded by Erik Fairburn back in 2009, when there were only a handful of electric cars cruising on UK roads, Pod Point was one of the first to market, committing to creating and installing home and commercial chargers across the UK, while also providing a public EV charging network.

What is the Pod Point Network?

In a few words, the Pod Point Network is the public electric car charging network from Pod. In the UK, it’s one of the biggest public EV charging networks, with over 9,200 charging bays across hundreds of sites around the country.

And that’s not mentioning some of their high-level partnerships with high-profile brands such as Tesco, Centre Parcs and Heathrow airport – to name a few.

What do Pod charge points look like?

As one of the original charge point operators (CPOs), Pod Point used a smorgasbord of different hardware over the intervening decade and a half.

But the most traditional Pod Point charging stations are in the bollard style, or “lipstick shaped,” where they are curved at the top. To spot them, they will be in the traditional PodPoint colour scheme: dark grey and black with accents of green. The Pod Point logo is plastered on the side, loud and proud. Plus, they are all socketed (untethered) and come to waist height.

For rapid and ultra-rapid charging stations, they will be bigger than the bollard style, with large, vibrant signs indicating rapid and ultra rapid charging capabilities. As tethered charging points, they will have three charging cables available.

How do I find Pod Point charging stations?

Like almost all public charge point operators in the UK, the Pod Point Network has its own app. Easily locate nearby Pod chargers within seconds, and have the luxury of paying via the app, too.

Download quickly and easily from the Google and Apple App stores for free.

Bonus: Pod don’t enforce a subscription fee or connection fee if you have the app.

If you’re worried about the array of public charging network apps clogging your phone space, perhaps take a look at Zap-Map. Get live updates and locations on nearby public EV charging points across the board of networks, instead of just Pod Point. One app for them all.

Can I charge any electric vehicle on the Pod Network?

Most electric cars can use the Pod Point network. But EVs with Type 1 connectors, check before you charge. And this is a solid rule of thumb for all public charging networks. Type 1 connectors aren’t common in the UK, and charging points tend the lack availability to match.

For Pod Point, though, the AC fast charger has a type 2, CCS and CHADEMO for DC rapid and ultra-rapid charging.

What charging speeds are available on the Pod Point Network?

As you’d expect from a long-established charging network, Pod offers a variety of EV charging speeds across its many different locations for each scenario:

Pod Charging Speeds
Fast charging AC 3.6kW, 7kW, 22kW
Rapid charging DC 43kW, 50kW, 75kW
Ultra rapid DC 175kW

How much does it cost to charge on the Pod Point Network?

As with everything with EV charging costs, the true price of charging depends on several factors, but most prominently, the speed of the charger.

As of October 2025, Pod Point prices range from 44p per kWh for charging at a fast charger, right up to 89p per kWh for an ultra-rapid charging station at one of the new EV zones.

Destination Fast AC charging 44p-49p/kWh
Rapid DC charging 62p -69p /kWh

EV Zones Rapid DC charging 39p/kWh – 89p/kWh

Unlike some other networks, there are no connection or subscription fees for downloading the Pod app, so you’ll only be charged for the electricity you consume.

How do I use charge points on the Pod Point Network?

  1. Find your charger: Use the Pod Point app or Zap-Map app, or visit your regular spot.
  2. Park safely: Get your electric car parked in the green bay, ready for EV charging.
  3. Connect & charge: For AC chargers, make sure to pack your own charging cable. Plug it into the EV charger and your car. For DC rapid chargers, though, they are tethered – so keep your charging cable in the boot.
  4. Start the Charge: On the Pod app: Find the charger using its unique 2-4 letter code and hit “Confirm Charge”. You’ve got 15 minutes to confirm. On DC chargers: Use the screen on the charger or the app to start charging.
  5. When finished: For AC chargers: Simply unplug the cable from your car to stop charging. For DC chargers: Stop the charge by hitting “Stop” in the app or on the charger screen.

How can I pay for Pod Point charging?

  • Contactless payments
  • Pod Point App
  • Zap-Pay from Zap-Map

Please note: Pod removed their RFID cards back in 2015. Though there are no subscription or connection fees.

Our verdict: Is it worth using the Pod Point Network?

With over 9,200 Pod charging stations available, dotted in popular, high footfall destinations such as Gatwick airport, Pod Point is an extremely convenient charging network for electric car drivers. In fact, Pod Point has been voted as the most used public charging network in surveys from 2018 to 2024.

That said, a drawback of the network lies with VAT receipts. Specifically, if you’re driving your electric car for work and need a VAT receipt, you have to contact the support team to arrange to get one, adding an element of faff to the process.

Overall, though, for everyday electric car drivers who value ease of use, convenient locations, multiple payment methods, and tried and true infrastructure, the Pod Point electric vehicle charging network is one to add to the roster.
