InstaVolt Charging Network – A How-to-Use Guide
EV charging points are multiplying. To date, there are a whopping 72,594 devices across the UK, giving EV drivers easy, convenient places to charge. In fact, most of these chargers are made up of the ever-growing web of public charging networks.
But did you know that different charging networks have different prices, payment options and more?
In an effort to unplug the charging network and make sense of it on your behalf, we’re taking you through each and every public charging network.
Today, we’re detangling the InstaVolt charging station network, including Instavolt charging costs, locations, and how to plug in.
Who are they?
Established in 2016 and headquartered in Hampshire, InstaVolt is a public charging network developer, installer, owner and operator. In fact, with 1,500 charging points spread high and wide, InstaVolt is the UK’s largest fully public rapid charging network.
On top of this, they power all charging stations by 100% renewable energy, too.
How much does InstaVolt cost?
As with all public charging points, the specific costs can vary depending on the kW charging speed of the EV charger and the location. That said, InstaVolt’s pricing is set at 85p per kWh.
A pre-authorisation fee of £15 or £45 may pop up as a pending transaction on your card temporarily. Don’t fret, though – they only charge you the amount you use.
Plus, there are no membership fees, so you can charge ahead with no unexpected costs.
What do the chargers look like?
As DC-powered rapid and ultra-rapid chargers, InstaVolt charging stations are big. Tall. Bulky. But they have to be to power your EV so quickly. Unlike home EV chargers which are powered by AC electricity, and can therefore be smaller in size, DC charging points need to be on the larger side of life.
All charging stations are white – or, more specifically, off-white – with a distinct red V plastered on the front along with their logo.
Where are InstaVolt charging stations?
InstaVolt chargers are everywhere. You’ll spot them in all the buzzing spots – think busy retail parks, chock-full supermarkets and certain premium gyms. Specifically, keep an eye out for Costa, Starbucks, McDonalds, Booths, KFC, Bannatyne and Co-op as InstaVolt has partnerships with these thriving retail and hospitality businesses.
Whether you’re grabbing a coffee, stretching your legs, or sneaking in some fries, your on-the-go EV charging just got easier.
Recharge your own battery while charging your car.
How do I find InstaVolt charging points near me?
Think of the locations we mentioned before to find nearby charging points. But, if you are wanted to quickly and conveniently locate an InstaVolt near you, use of the following methods:
- Use the InstaVolt map on the website
- Download the InstaVolt app
- Download other EV charging apps such as Zap-map and ChargePoint
What charging speeds are available?
InstaVolt, just like the name sounds, focuses on the fastest charging speeds available with DC energy, providing instant volts. So, we’re talking rapid and ultra-rapid EV charging. These speeds will range anywhere from 50kW to 160kW DC, getting you topped-up in as little as 20 minutes.
How do I charge?
Easy – in three simple steps. In fact, it’s just like charging at other public charging networks.
How to use an InstaVolt charger:
- Tap your contactless debit/credit card or fleet charge pass on the screen, or use the InstaVolt app to control your charging session.
- Use the tethered cable to plug the connector into your electric car, then select Start to commence charging.
- Press the stop when you’re topped up and set to go – don’t forget to take out the charging cable and put it back neatly for the next person.
Remember, if you get stuck, the helpline is available 24/7.
What charge cards are compatible?
Currently, these are the charge cards that work with InstaVolt:
Are the chargers open 24 hours?
