Discover everything you need to know about the Simpson and Partners Home Series V3 electric car charger in our Simpson and Partners EV charger review. We discuss the pros, cons and give you our final verdict on the home EV charger.

What is the Simpson and Partners EV charger?

Available in 7kW or 22kW, the Simpson & Partners Home Series V3 is a wall-mount smart home EV charger that comes in tethered and untethered models. Manufactured here in the UK, the Simpson & Partners model is robust and stylish, made from anodised aluminium with a choice of an accoya wood lid or metal.

As with all home EV chargers, Simpson and Partners EV charging has a smartphone app for management, using a string of connections for your charger, app and EV.

The Home Series V3 is also fully Smart Charging Regulation compliant.

Now, with the brief introduction out the way, let’s dig into the pros of the Simpson and Partners electric car charger.

Simpson and Partners EV Charger Review: Pros

1. Style, the Simpson and Partners way

At a neat and discreet size of roughly an A4 piece of paper, the classy and customisable Simpsons and Partners Home Series V3 complements your home, not distracts from it.

And in a slew of unique metal front colour and materials combinations – 125, to be exact – you can design your perfect home EV charger.

Match your garage door. Your electric car. Your home. Or go bold and create a dazzling charging point that captures the attention of neighbours and strangers alike.

Choose your metal front colour cover, your lid material – metal or wood – and even choose the colour of the lid too. From Neptune Blue to Kemble Green to Dark Champagne, indulge in unique, luxurious colours and make a splash on your street.

Entirely customisable. Entirely curated. Entirely your own.

Plus, in durable metal, the build quality surpasses other plastic models on the market.

2. Market-leading warranty of 10 years

3 years: The typical warranty. 5 years: An extended warranty. 7 years: A generous warranty.

10-year warranty? Unheard of.

Until now.

With Simpson and Partner’s EV chargers, you go beyond the basics with their unparalleled, unmatched 10-year warranty.

3. Simpson’s secure safety

Instead of just software, Simpson and Partners go the extra mile. Their unique internal composition, specifically the microchip, monitors your unit 52 times a second, detecting issues and hazards faster than other home chargers on the market. Proactive and protective with their response times.

4. Premium tariff integration

Simpson & Partners Home Series has a coveted EV tariff with integration with one of the UK’s leading EV tariffs, the Intelligent Octopus Go tariff. With this, you can charge your electric car for as little as 7p per kWh during off-peak hours.

But that’s not all. The Simpson and Partners Home Series 3 is also compatible with another leading EV tariff – OVO Charge Anytime.

In fact, Simpson & Partners EV chargers can save more than £586 a year.

5. Solar EV charging

Forget paying extra for solar, the Simpson and Partners Home Series V3 comes with solar EV charging baked in from the get-go.

So as long as you have solar panels at home, you can top-up your EV’s battery for cheaper and greener with free, surplus solar energy. Think of the money you can keep in your back pocket for a rainy day.

6. Cable lock

Socketed at heart, but tethered if desired, the Simpson & Partnerships cable lock gives you the chance to imitate a tethered unit by locking the cable in place.

Plus, in tethered mode, your cable is locked and loaded, adding an additional layer of security protection as pesky thieves can’t unplug your charging cable.

Note, you won’t get this feature with the tethered version, as the cable will be fused to the unit already.

Simpson and Partners EV charger Review: Cons

1. 4G – but at extra cost

If you’re in an area with spotty, unstable Wi-Fi that constantly goes down when the TV is blaring, phones are pinging, and the computer is whizzing, you’ll need a mobile 4G connection to access the smart features. Otherwise, you’ll have disrupted access to smart charging, limiting your savings and reducing your charging experience.

The problem here? While some EV chargers offer 4G as standard, such as the Ohme Home Pro and Easee One, you’ll have to pay more to get the mobile connection. This may not have been a problem if it were cheap and cheerful like the Evec or Project EV, but as a premium EV charger, paying for 4G as an extra is a pain point.

2. No display on EV charger

Style is without a doubt there with the Simpsons and Partners, but does the design incorporate all the functionality possible? Technically not, as no LCD screen exists for easy access and charging management. This isn’t common practice, but some smart electric vehicle chargers, like the Ohme Home Pro, offer this handy feature.

If style is of the utmost importance, then there isn’t a worry. But if you prefer your EV chargers all singing and all dancing, then perhaps have a look around.

3. Not a happy App

The Simpson and Partners app comes with the expected functionality: set charging schedules, stop and start your charge and browse EV charging analytics, in short.

But the reviews are in from app users, and they are not happy with the app.

According to the reviews on Google Play, the app has worsened over the years, losing functionality and responsiveness.

One of the biggest gripes seems to be that the app design has changed, so now the Charge app doesn’t fit certain smartphone screens. Some have noted that you can’t access certain buttons, including settings due to this, but most importantly, you can’t use the charge schedule feature due to the size ratio.

Worsening, people have noted that the app simply fails to connect to the charge scheduling at all. With this, you would lose access to cheaper, greener EV charging times, making the feature and one of the biggest benefits of home chargers redundant.

One to definitely keep in mind.

Simpson and Partners EV Charger review: Conclusion – Is it good?

To sum up, with its classy palette of luxurious high-quality paint, entirely customisable as well as its built-in tariff integration, extra safety features and a market-leading 10-year warranty – it’s safe to say you can’t go wrong with the Simpson and Partners EV charger as a quality product. With this, we would recommend it if luxury British heritage style is your main focus.

Of course, there are some negatives, including 4G being extra and no display, plus, it’s not compatible with all EV tariffs, unlike other chargers. These aren’t the biggest barriers, though. The core problem is the glitches on the Simpson and Partners EV charger app due to the new app redesign, with the app no longer properly fitting the screen.

Overall, the Simpson and Partners EV charger does match the energy of many home charging points for sale in 2025 – but just not with the app, which could be a deal-breaker for those who was easy charging management and value cost savings.
